Summer School on Neuroeconomics: a great success
The CSCA Summer School 2010 ‘Neuroeconomics: An exciting joint venture' was a great success. Approximately 80 young scientists (master as well as PhD students) from many countries (a.o. the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, USA) participated in this interdisciplinary Summer School. Since Neuroeconomics is a relatively new area of research, very few Summer Schools are held on this subject - making this a unique experience for participants and lecturers.
The Summer School 2010 was organised by Frans van Winden (CREED) and Tobias Kalenscher (SILS-CNS) and was structured around the research of visiting professor Ernst Fehr from the University of Zürich. The program included lectures about various aspects of neuroeconomics, such as individual and social decision-making, intertemporal choice, trust, and the influence of emotions. Furthermore, guided by tutors, the Summer School students wrote position papers on various controversial themes in neuroeconomics. The Summer School took place from June 7 - June18, 2010.
During a Workshop on June 17, various lecturers and the students debated about possible practical applications of neuroeconomics, and about the future of the field. On June 18, a closing Symposium was held for a broader audience, where various renowned international researchers presented their findings. This Symposium provided an overview of recent developments in this interesting new field of research. During the Symposium, the students of the Summer School presented posters about their position papers.
The organisers look back on two very interesting and stimulating weeks
and are very grateful to the lecturers, tutors, and students for their
contributions.
