The nature of deep reading comprehension

Prof. dr. Catherine Snow
Professor of Education at Harvard University, Cambridge (USA)

The simple view of reading development has dictated instructional attention to ease and accuracy of word reading, and to the role of oral vocabulary. I argue that these two factors effectively predict 'simple comprehension,' but that the deep reading comprehension required for learning from text, critiquing text, and producing complex written texts depends on additional factors that are too often neglected in classroom literacy or content area instruction.

This lecture is organised together with the ACLC.
